Golf Courses in the Lisbon Area

Lisbon is easily reached from most European countries and the city receives visitors from all over the world, attracted by its beauty and architectural exoticism and its unique blend of history, sun, colour, entertainment and fine cuisine.

Lisbon enjoys a particularly mild climate, being located only a stones throw from some excellent golf courses and equipped with a wide variety of hotel accommodation.

All around this area, no more than an hour by car from Lisbon, are some of the most prestigious golf destinations in Portugal: the Estoril & Sinta Golf Coast and Oeste Golf, to the west and north of the city and close to the coast, and Costa Azul Golf, on the south side of the River Tagus, whose courses were designed by such famous archite3cts as Robert Trent Jones, Mackenzie Ross and Rocky Roquemore. Lisbon Golf Coast was elected Established Golf Destination of the Year 2003 by the International Golf Travel Awards a number of new courses have appeared in the region in recent years and several others are due to be inaugurated in the not too distant future: a new 18 hole course, in Oeiras which is set to open in 2004; two courses at Alenquer, a 18 hole course at Santo Estevao, as well as two others in Pamela and Alcochete, on the south side of the river. A new 18 hole course are built in Quinta do Bom Sucesso near the beautiful mediaeval town of Obidos together with a second 18 hole course at Praia d'El Rey.

Both Lisbon and Sintra have presented UNESCO with special features that have led to their inclusion in its list of World Heritage sites. As a complement to the excellent golf, visitors can enjoy not only the delights of the cosmopolitan resorts of Estoril and Cascais, with their vast range of lively bars and discotheques, Europe's largest casino and various shops selling the latest international fashion, but also other attractive beaches, such as Ericeira, to the north of Lisbon.
